Intermediate Intaglio: Copper Plate Etching- Thursdays in May 1/5, 8/5, 15/5, 22/5, 29/5, 6-9 pm
During this month long, Thursday evening class. (5 days, 2-3 hr evening classes) you will learn the basics of intaglio printmaking Using low/non toxic materials and etchants.
Learn the basics of traditional copper plate etching (intaglio) printmaking, from designing the image, preparing and drawing into the plate, inking, wiping and pressing, you’ll learn the entire process, with low/non toxic inks and chemicals!
You will receive hands on education as the instructor Thayer Bray will take you step by step through the image making, plate producing, and inking/ printing process.
At the end of the class you will have an edition of hand-pulled prints you made yourself!
Evening 1 : Plate prep, drawing, begin to etch
Evening 2 : intro to intaglio printing- plate inking, wiping, paper handling, working the press
Evening 3 : open printing and troubleshooting, reworking the plate with drypoint, spit biting, etc.
Evening 4 : open printing and troubleshooting
Evening 5: critique, curating the edition, feedback celebrate!
This class will also count as a press signoff class, meaning you will be permitted to use the press unsupervised/ with reduced supervision in future!
This Workshop is $120+$25 lab fee. Lab fees pay for tools and materials: Plex, Ink, paper, etc.

*This class requires moderate hand strength and a dexterity.
*You may be exposed to natural and petroleum solvents in this class. Safety procedures will be followed.
